Birth Story of Our Son

Our precious little angel baby made his appearance at the very end of January and we are simply obsessed. Owen Elliott Winkelmann arrived swiftly weighing a good 9lbs 9oz of pure sugar.

I feel so so grateful that both of my births have been such joyful and honestly fun experiences. With Owen, I reallllly didn’t want to be induced, but at 41+ weeks, I agreed that an induction sounded like a good idea lol.

The morning that I had an induction scheduled, we were supposed to be at the hospital at 5:15 am. As we were packed up and headed out the door, we got a call from the hopsital that there was no room in the inn for us to come in— they said to just hang around at home and wait for a call. So we waited. Allll day long- which felt like a whole week to my very pregnant self.

The next day at 10am we got a call that there was an open room for us! So we loaded on up and headed into town- first to donuts, then to the hospital.

When we arrived at the hospital, they pretty quickly got me started on pitocin to get the party started. About on hour later, they broke my water & contractions promptly started!  Now, as much as I would love to be an all natural girl, I love me an epidural— so I asked for it as soon as my contractions felt too intense for my liking. I got that sweet sweet epidural at 3:45 and thought we would be settling in for a long day of waiting until it was itme to push.

Turns out, my body was ready to get that baby out and less than an hour later, it was go time! I love the moment when they call in the troops and you know you’re so so close to meeting your baby!

After two contractions of pushing baby was almost out— which was WILD and felt so quick. Just before the next contraction, Grant and the Dr. were chatting and I start to feel like maybe he was about to fall out lol. The nurse says- I think she’s having another contraction and he’s coming now. The Dr. looks and goes, oh wow here he is, just laugh him out!

And with a laugh and a push, our boy was here! Everyone was shocked at his size, but I knew there was a big baby in there lol

The next hours were filled with that newborn bliss of getting to know the newest member of our family! Truly the sweetest momements admiring our chunky little cherub.

We are so thankful that our boy is here and is safe and healthy, couldn’t ask for anything more! Praise be to God for new life!
